What is Virtual Kenya?
Virtual Kenya is an online interactive platform, with related materials (in DVD) for those with no access to the Internet. It is designed to provide improved access to high quality spatial data and cutting-edge mapping technology to allow more Kenyans to use and interact with spatial data in their educational and professional pursuits. Users both inside and outside of Kenya are able to:
- View Virtual Kenya Tours that use interactive maps, images, and graphs to explain data on Kenya's geography and environment.
- Learn about geography and how to use various FREE map-based tools, including Google Earth, WorldMap, and ArcGIS Explorer Desktop.
- Explore maps through the WorldMap interactive map viewer, which allows users to view, create and download maps of Kenya.
- Download high quality spatial data in a variety of file formats, including KML, Shapefiles, GML 2.0, GML 3.11, CSV, Excel, and GeoJSN.
- Publish user-generated GIS content, such as maps, KML, tours, and GIS-relevant lesson plans and publications.
- Share experiences, comments, and events with other users as part of the Virtual Kenya Community.
- Compete for great prizes by submitting the best maps, tours, and other map-related content to the Virtual Kenya Competition.

How do I use the Virtual Kenya Website?
To register to Virtual Kenya, click on the 'Community' menu tab, at the top of the page, and select Login/create account .
Although you can use many of Virtual Kenya's features without registering, by creating your own account you have the ability to rate and comment on website content, upload your own map-related content, participate in Virtual Kenya competitions, and interact with other Virtual Kenya users through the Community platform.
