By July 2011, the number of people who had succumbed to these harsh conditions was approximately 2.4 million and it is said to rise to about 3.5 million if the condition is not dealt with effectively and on time. Women and children are the most affected among whom the lactating mothers have nothing to offer their young ones. It is an ugly scene to watch people die due to starvation. According to CARE international the situation is unlikely to improve until early next year. CARE International says that thousands of refugees walk from Somali for weeks to reach a camp in the Northern part of Kenya, Daadab. They further describe the situation in Daadab as a grave situation. With high optimism the camp in has helped sought out atleast 367,000 refugees making it the world’s largest refugee camp. Through the Kenya Red Cross Society and other organizations such as CARE International and even the Government of Kenya, the situation has been reduced and the effect now is minimal compared to the previous and expected. Donations have been made both in funds and in kind through initiatives such as Kenya for Kenyans and this has hugely helped the people living in these droughts stricken areas.
